Kaze needs your help! This stray rottie-mix needs to have her leg amputated ASAP! My local vet is willing to do the proceedure for roughly 500 dollars and I'm trying desperately to raise the money. Long Story

Who is Kaze? Kaze is short for "KamiKaze" and she is the stray Rottie mix that darted out in front of my car last Thursday night (October 18th). Luckily, I was only going about 30 miles an hour and the impact only caused a few scrapes. Unfortunately, her right leg was pinched under my tire, and de-gloved her from the ankle down.

For those of you un-familier with the term 'de-gloving' imagine someone taking off a glove that's actually their skin. It also caused a fracture in her upper leg.

I jumped out of the car and wrapped a belt around her leg as a make-shift tourniquet and put her in the back seat. My boyfriend, who was traveling with me, sat in the back and held the belt tight till we arrived at the emergency vet. At the vet, they replaced the belt with a real tourniquet and hooked her up with some morphine. Nothing further could be done until an owner was located.

Unfortunately, Kaze doesn't have an owner. The next morning I got a call from the vet threatening to euthenize her unless I could put out 2,000 dollars for surgery. In response I called the local animal rescue organization and they arranged her to be treated at the county animal shelter.

On Monday my room mate and I went to visit the rottie/mix and found that leaving her in the kennels was putting her at major risk in addition to the fact that a fileing error prevented her from recieveing anti-biotics over the weekend. Her leg smelled horrible.

We're not allowed to have dogs at our appartment, but my roomate (Ashleigh) and I couldn't leave her there. The shelter loaded us up with seven days worth of medication and we snuck the dog back to the appartment.

Tuesday was the beginning of the efforts. After having had called every organization I could think of, my room mate and I started making donation boxes. After some more calls, I eventually had the pleasure of contacting a charity vet (I wish I could post their name, but I seldom give hints as to where I live for my own on-line safety) and they said they would see Kaze, x-ray her body, and see if there was any internal bleeding and all for reduced rate.

Thankfully, she checked out healthy. Not even a bruise, save for that one bad leg. After the vet, I contacted best friends in Utah. They told me that they would take Kaze, give her surgery, and give her a life-long home. This was fantastic!.....save for the fact I had to some how drive her to Utah.

Running out of options still, on Wednesday my friend Michel and his lovly wife Stephanie aggreed to foster the poor rottie-mix until surgery. Those are some damn good people, folks. Their kindness to both Kaze and I has really come through. After surgery, they may even consider adoption if things mesh between them and Kaze.

Another damn good person is my friend Katie (shadow-wolf) who is running an online fundraiser to save Kaze's live. Thank you Katie, thank you so much for your help.
